Reflection: This class helped me apply a variety of principles and concepts in fiscal management to the parks and recreation field. While I have dealt with various financial principles and theories as they relate to non-profits and my consulting business, this class helped me to learn how these theories can relate to parks and recreation, sports management and local government. Specifically, the bond repayment project was a great learning opportunity for me as it provided insight to some of the financial practices and constraints parks departments and local governments are dealing with when implementing new projects and programs. For this class, I also really enjoyed the sponsorship package project, I was able to take a concept I had been developing at my workplace and build out a comprehensive sponsorship model and package. According to Dr. Bush, the package received the highest grade she ever gave on this assignment. Additionally, I was able to take the project, make some edits and implement it at NCRPA, helping to bring in an additional 20k in sponsor revenue in 2018. I originally thought I would not enjoy this class, but it was extremely engaging and relevant to the program and my career.
