Reflection: For this assignment, we were asked to research and select up to three potential sites to build a Tourism Information Center (TIC) in our city. Using ArcGIS and a GIS Data collection app we visited local attractions within our city limits and collected data that was used along with suitability criteria, such as road accessibility, zoning type, and proximity to parks, to determine the best location. This assignment required us to create an ArcGIS Online Map for data collection, collect data using a mobile app, integrate field survey data with ArcGIS Online Map, and perform simple geoprocessing in ArcGIS Online. I found this assignment quite enjoyable, as it allowed me to physically visits sites, use the app and then plot them out using the available data to decide for the best places to build a TIC. In the end, I was able to identify three sites that would be suitable for a Tourism Information Center. Before this class, I had little experience with GIS, the class, and the project exposed me to GIS and gave me the confidence and skills in using programs such as ArcGIS and Google Earth to explore the field further. I am even considering a graduate certificate in GIS as my next academic venture, as this is a skill will be useful as I progress in my career.
